While passing variables using a basic Subid is great for most occasions sometimes as marketers we need to track multiple different variables and have them inserted into multiple different places in our destination URLs. This is when Smart Variable Passing comes to our rescue. The basic tenant of Smart Variable Passing is this: ALL VARIABLES ADDED TO A LINKSHIFTR URL CAN BE ADDED INTO DESTINATION URL(S) IN ANY PLACE. So, if you appended multiple different variables from an ad placement onto your Linkshiftr link like this:
http://linkshiftr.com/xxx?subid=ad1&keyword=frog&location=USA
You could then insert them into your destination URL anywhere you would like using the variable names enclosed in curly braces like this: http://destinationsite.com/page3.htm?aff=3565&sid={subid}-{keyword}-{location}
And in this case the user would actually land on the following destination url:
http://destinationsite.com/page3.htm?aff=3565&sid=ad1-frog-USA
Alternatively you could send the user to a destination url that looks like this: http://destinationsite.com/page2.htm?aff=3565&sid={subid}&sid2={keyword}|{location}
And in this case the user would have actually landed on the following destination url: http://destinationsite.com/page2.htm?aff=3565&sid=ad1&sid2=frog|USA
The thing to remember is that ANY variable added to a Linkshiftr URL can be added into a destination URL in any place. All you need to do is enclose the variable name you.re passing in curly braces and insert it into your destination URL wherever you would like it to go.
